  1. What is the 31st Annual 5K Hunger Walk?
    Westside Food Bank’s Hunger Walk is a fun, free and educational event and a staple in 600 local families’ calendars each year. Historically, the event takes place along the walking path at the beach in Santa Monica, culminating in an after-party at Perry's Beach Cafe. This year, in light of continued social distancing, families will be choosing their favorite neighborhood walking routes for a 5K with their loved ones and friends, while fundraising, sharing their photos online, and tuning into live and pre-recorded video and digital communications.

  2. When does the 2021 Hunger Walk take place?
    The Hunger Walk kicks off on Sunday, October 17th with an informational and inspiring livestream at 1pm. Then, all registered walkers and walking groups will have one week to complete their 5K. We will come back together the following Sunday, October 24th for a closing celebration, also livestreamed on our Youtube, Facebook and Digital Event Space. Fundraising for the Hunger Walk begins upon registration, and continues up until Sunday, October 24th. 

  3. Participation is free. Do I have to register?
    Yes, registration is required for participation at the Hunger Walk.

  4. Where do I complete my virtual 5K?
    Anywhere! The beauty of a virtual race is you can complete it wherever you are.

  5. What activities can I do to complete my walk? Do I have to run or walk?
    You have multiple ways you can complete the challenge including running, walking, cycling, skating, skiing, snowshoeing, treadmilling, swimming, and rowing/paddling. Another perk of a virtual event!

  6. What is included with a registration for the 31st Annual 5K Hunger Walk?
    All registered walkers receive an official event t-shirt and swag bag, as well as access to tracking and interactive course experience app, and a digital finisher certificate.

  7. How do I get my swag?

  8. How do I use the RaceJoy app?
    Check out our RaceJoy page for all the details. The app can be downloaded from your android or Apple device's app store for free.

  9. Do I have to use the RaceJoy app? Can I use another app like MapMyRun, Strava, etc?
    While you'll miss the fun audio messages delivered to your ears... yes, you can use whichever app you prefer. You will still need to log your miles through RunSignUp in order to have your progress and results displayed with your fellow walkers.

  11. How do I fundraise for Westside Food Bank?
    Thank you for helping us end hunger by fundraising! We appreciate you. Within the registration form, RunSignUp will automatically create a fundraiser page for you. You will also be prompted to create a fundraising team if interested in creating a more impactful experience for your walking group. While not required, fundraising is recommended. You can set your goal and customize your page with your story, why you are fundraising, and photos. Through your profile, you can manage your page and invite people in your circles to support you.   12. Are donations tax deductible?
    Westside Food Bank is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We'll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
